Planning for a Flood Emergency
Every year - typically from the middle of May through the middle of June - we experience major spring runoff in Pitkin County. However, no one can exactly predict the spring weather, including warm temperatures and precipitation which, when factored in with high snow-pack, will determine the rate of flow in the county's creeks and rivers. In this web site we have outlined some of the essential services your government agencies will perform in the event of a flood emergency. We have also suggested some critical steps that you can take yourself to help ensure your safety and that of your loved ones. Finally, we have attempted to provide some outside resources that may provide valuable information to help you protect yourself.
